BCCI has taken a bold decision, and the decision is to take IPL out of india for the 2nd season. Yes, you read it right.
The 2009 Indian premier league season will happen outside India. South Africa and England are the 2 likely venues where the matches can be held. South africa holds the upper hand though.
IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi however said that the matches would be held on the scheduled dates. Neither would the timings change and the Indian audience will be able to watch the matches as scheduled according to the IST (Indian standard time).
BCCI President Shashank Manohar, addressing the press after the meeting said: "We have been forced to move the IPL out of India. My apologies to the people of India, who have loved the event. But the attitude of the government has forced us to take this step."
BCCI will come out with the venue details in the next 2-3 days. Shashank Manohar said, that many countries are interested in hosting the lucrative Twenty20 event.
The timings for the indian audience to watch the IPL matches will be 4 Pm and 8Pm IST

Shaun Pollock in a New Role for Mumbai Indians In IPL 2009
Ex South-African captain Shaun Pollock will be returning to Indian Premier League side Mumbai Indians, but in a new role this time.
The South African pace bowler and former captain was a key player for Mumbai Indians last year but had scrapped a three-year contract after quitting competitive cricket.
The Mumbai Indians had signed up Zaheer Khan during the transfer period last year to fill the gap created by Pollock's exit.
But the 35-year-old has now signed a fresh two-year deal in an advisory role with the Mumbai franchisee.
"I still love the game and the pioneering aspect of a new team and a new concept is a challenge I'll enjoy," Pollock was quoted as saying by DNA.
"My role has evolved into that of an advisor and mentor after the management approached me with a flexible offer.
"I don't see myself as a coach.
"I just believe over the years I've experienced so many different approaches and methods in getting the best out of players and I think my role with the Mumbai Indians is an opportunity to pass on my skills and knowledge."
Pollock believes the Mumbai Indians, who had narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth last year, have the attributes to be a highly successful team.
"Obviously we're aiming to win the tournament," Pollock added.
"We can improve on our performance last year and hopefully we can get the best out of our players.
"I believe the Mumbai Indians have the raw ingredients to be a highly successful franchise.
"The team is a very exciting mix of youth and experience.
"There are legends in the team - and we know what to expect from them - and on the other hand we have guys with huge potential.
"I think we've got a great balance to the team."
Reliance Industries owned team is led by Sachin Tendulkar and also has former Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh in their list.
IPL Revised Schedule to be out in 48 Hours
Indian Premier League organiser have submitted a revised time-table to the Home Ministry in a effort to make sure that IPL's second season should take place in 2009
The tournament ran into trouble due to security concerns because of the elections.
A day after a meeting between the Home Ministry and IPL officials failed to finalise the schedule which coincides with the general elections, the organisers re-worked the schedule for the third time.
"We have received a new schedule from the IPL organisers today and have sent to states for their view," a Home Ministry spokesman said.
Desperate to get the high-profile event on track, the IPL's top officials held a series of meetings fine-tune the time-table which has now taken into account the reservations and security constraints of the states hosting the matches.
IPL Dates not yet Decided
The Home Ministry had told the organisers that changes in the fixture was not acceptable and they would have to finalize the dates and venues consulting the state governments hosting the matches.
With around 20 days to go for the cash-rich IPL 2009 season to get underway, the Home Ministry's rejection of the 2nd proposed schedule submitted by the IPL organisers has put a question mark on the fate of the tournament which is suooi 10.
"The Home Ministry have expressed their concerns, they have explained it to us in details. We've also explained our difficulties and concerns and the importance of all the stakeholders," Srinivasan had told reporters.
The IPL is keen to hold the tournament between April 10 and May 24 as any postponement would mean that the event has to be shelved till this period next year in view of the packed cricketing calendar.
A postponement would also bring heavy financial losses for the organisers as well as the eight franchisees, many of whom have already gone ahead with their merchandising and ad campaigns.
Sure, this wont help the recession hit markets.

Mumbai Indians May Strike a Record Sponsorship Deal with Idea Cellular for IPL
IPL team Mumbai Indians is mighty close to finalise a record sponsorship deal with telecom giant Idea Cellular worth between $2 & 3 million for the 2nd season of IPL.
"We have almost finalised the deal. It is the biggest in the Indian premier league so far," a Mumbai Indians spokesperson said.
The MI spokesperson said that the deal, if and when signed, would be worth $2 million for preliminary matches played by Mumbai Indians and would go up to $3 million if the team reaches the semi finals and final.
However, a spokesperson for Idea said it was too early to give details about the proposed deal with Mumbai Indians.
"We are still at the negotiation stage and it's premature to talk about figures", he said.
Meanwhile, the Reliance Industries-owned Mumbai Indians team is continuing its negotiations with the Cricket Club of India to play all its home matches at the Brabourne Stadium, the Mumbai Indians spokesperson explained.
"We are still in talks with the CCI authorities and the response has been quite positive. We don't want to say anything more at this point", he said.
If the talks are successful, MI would play all their seven home matches at the Brabourne Stadium in South Mumbai.
In the first (2008) IPL Season, their home matches were split between the Wankhede Stadium and D Y Patil Stadium.
