IPL Shall be embraced - Justin Langer

Former Australia opening batsmen Justin Langer believes cricket's administrators have a "great challenge" ahead of them because of the Indian Premier League.

The inaugural event gets under way on Friday with a host of the world's biggest stars gathering in India - and earning themselves sizeable wage packets in the process.

The timing of the league means there is a dirth of English players heading east, with the England and Wales Cricket Board banning its centrally contracted players from taking part.

Langer himself chose to honour his contract with English county side Somerset rather than join the IPL, but he believes people must accept cricket's newest tournament.

"Everyone needs to embrace it," Langer told Sky Sports News. "It's happening.

"The fact is in a few days' time it's kicking off. So everyone needs to embrace it.

"In a perfect world, (in) every single county game you have your best players playing; IPL, you have your best players playing and, most importantly, (in) international cricket the best players have to be playing every single game.

"The administrators have a great challenge on their hands to make sure that happens.

"You don't want to see county players going to the IPL and missing county cricket or the international players going to the IPL and missing international cricket.

"At the same time the IPL, as big a concept as it is, wants to see the best players.

"So the administrators definitely have a challenge on their hands. I hope they take it on board and everyone gets the benefit."
